Howard’s injury might cost him his job
20 January 2012In AGF their defender, Mark Howard, is ruled out for the spring due to an ankle injury. The timing is very unlucky for Howard since his contract with the club expires this summer. If AGF decides not to renew his contract he might find it difficult to sign a contract with a new club at the same level. There is still about six weeks before the Danish Superliga returns to action.
English Premier League
With the now known consequences of Sammy Ameobi’s injury (ruled out the rest of the season), it is great news for Newcastle that Papiss Cisse is signed from Freiburg. He will fill out the role in the attack while top scorer Demba Ba is playing on national duties.
Another team suffering from newly long-lasting injuries is West Bromwich. They have Zoltan Gera, Chris Brunt, Jonas Olsson, Steven Reid out with long-termed injuries, while Billy Jones and Shane Long have minor injuries.
German Bundesliga
The German Bundesliga is once again back this weekend with the first round of football in the final half of the season. As many as 12 Bundesliga-players are competing in the African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The team with the most players situated in these two countries in the first Bundesliga-rounds of 2012 is Vfb Stuttgart who has Mamadou Bah, Arthur Boka and Ibrahima Traoré away with their national teams. Back in Germany Bayern Munich’s Diego Contento is expected out till mid February with a fractured toe and Hannover 96’s Christian Schultz is injured as well due to a hamstring. In Wolfsburg Sotirios Kyrgiakos is suspended for the rest of the season.
Spanish Primera Division
After the hangover of the Clásico’s, is it now possible to confirm that there are no new injured players. Only Pedro and Fontás in FC Barcelona are still out of the playground, injured in a previous match. The other team from Barcelona, Espanyol, is still trying to overcome the two injuries of Álvaro and Sergio García against Mirandés, a club from the Spanish third division. Sergio, will be undergo an operation and won’t be able to play the next two months. More or less the same time will Alcácer from Valencia stay away from the matches because of a muscle tear in his left leg.
